Baishui Beach (Bai Shui Tan)

Overview. Baishui Beach is a short-martial play often performed with Through the Heavenly Halberd (Tong Tian Xi), telling the story of "Eleven Lang" saving "Green-Faced Tiger." It is a representative work for the wusheng (martial male) and wuchou (martial clown) roles.
Synopsis. The gallant "Green-Faced Tiger" Mu Yuji is captured by soldiers and escorted across Baishui Beach. The young fisherman Xu Shiying (Eleven Lang), seeing injustice, mistakenly helps the soldiers knock Mu into the water; later learning Mu is a wronged hero, he repents and instead helps him escape. The play advances through a thrilling sequence of "groping, fighting, chasing, saving."
Artistic Features. The play is known for demanding weapon (bazzi) work, tumbling, and staff-and-cudgel combat; Eleven Lang's heroism and Green-Faced Tiger's roughness are built through acrobatic skill, a hard-core piece of short-martial theatre.
Why Watch. With exciting martial content and tight pacing, it is a classic excerpt showcasing wusheng and wuchou technique.
